Our History

1930 The Beelgara winery was originally built by Italian immigrants, in the heartland of the Riverina wine district of New South Wales.
2001 The winery was purchased by the Toohey Family who have a proud history as liquor merchants since 1900.
2007 Beelgara was extensively modernised with investment in technology and rated 4.5 stars by James Halliday.
2012 As partnerships were forged with other wineries and new wine companies were acquired, Wine Insights was born to reflect our diverse range of wine brands and services.
Frog Rock Wines brand acquired.
2015 Cumulus Estate Wines was acquired, adding eight outstanding cool climate wines to our portfolio.
Wine Insights relocated to the premium region of Orange, New South Wales, to a state of the art facility with a processing capacity of 10,000 tonnes and 8 million litres of storage.

Our wines are crafted by our own winemaking team led by the highly respected Group Chief Winemaker Rod Hooper who has over 35 vintages to his name – at last count he has won 30 trophies, including 51 gold, and more than 300 other medals.

Senior Winemaker Debbie Lauritz is an oenology graduate of the prestigious Adelaide University. Debbie has become a cool climate specialist, having made wine overseas in the cool regions of Alsace, France; Marlborough, New Zealand; Niagara, Canada; Sonoma and California. Debbie’s winemaking philosophy is ‘let the fruit do the talking’, she believes the fruit should be the main focus of all our wines, with oak, yeast and other secondary characteristics supporting and enhancing the total varietal character.

Winemaker David Richards studied Viticulture & Winemaking at University of Western Sydney and started working as a cellar hand in New Zealand from 2007. He moved to become an Assistant Winemaker in 2010 at Project Wines, Langhorne Creek and then as a winemaker at Robert Stein Winery, Mudgee. David’s , Winemaker/Vineyard manager at Faber Vineyards, Swan Valley WA, Seppelts Wines, Great Western VIC, & Dr Frank Wines, Finger Lakes New York. David has completed 14 vintages in 8 years, in Australia, New Zealand, Canada, USA & Turkey.

We source premium cool climate grapes from Orange, Central Ranges, Clare Valley, Adelaide Hills, Coonawarra, Langhorne Creek and Margaret River to present a comprehensive Australian offering from the most recognised and distinguished wine regions. Established in 1995, the 508 hectare Cumulus vineyard is one of the largest single vineyard’s in New South Wales, which gently rises and falls across a range of elevations and slopes above and below 600m – traversing both the Orange and Central Ranges wine regions.

In such unique surroundings the Cumulus vineyard provides a range of elevations, terrains, volcanic soils and aspects which combined with the area’s high altitude, intense sunlight and cool climate delivers wines with bright fruit flavours and subtle elegance.
